Trusting Toyota’s Trustworthiness!

Toyota became the no 1 car maker of the world because they were known for good quality products. Quality that people can trust. But then they had to recall their cars because of accelerator pedal issues, a very serious issue for Toyota that damaged their sales, brand and more important the Trust of their customers and potential customers. Trust is the 9th code of the Sales Ninja. When you have good quality products, we tell people about it because as consumers we want to brag about our wise choice to go with the brand we chose.

In our trainings we talk about Trust takes time to build - but can be gone in an instant. In this case for Toyota, people’s trust with their ‘quality’ products is gone so fast because of the accelerator issues. It’s going to be a tough ride for them because it takes A LOT of time to rebuild the trust again. Bottomline is this, as a seller, you put so much time and effort into building trust, don’t screw it up by breaking the trust by not delivering your promises, hyping the facts or what not. Be consistent Be competent.

The NEW World Of Generating More Business…

I have a feeling that the world of marketing is changing (if not already changed). My prediction is this: before the buyer buys, they have already read a little about your products or services from the internet. Therefore sellers cannot be just information providers. We need to add value to the sales call by providing solutions or ideas that can solve our buyers problems or improve their situation. We need to understand their industry issues and challenges and create insights that the buyers themselves couldn’t observe themselves.

Next, i’m not saying the old media – tv, radio, billboards, newspaper is dead, but i am saying, the Internet has changed the way we receive information. I personally don’t read newspapers anymore, even if i do, i browse through the headlines and scan through the ads to see if there is something new in the market. I don’t watch tv anymore. If i need to watch a certain shows, i can do it online. I also don’t listen to the radio, this may differ some others because i mostly listen to personal development series in my car or i pop my favourite mp3 cds into the player. Billboards? Ok, will drive pass by, it’s good for brand recall, but don’t think there will ever be a call-to-action situation.

Am i the only one in the above situation? Apparently not, a lot of people i know, are also using the internet to replace the old medias. In fact, i was watching the primetime emmy awards and they joke about the online medias but they also acknowledged that the new generation are all online people, they do everything using the internet.

So where am i going with all these? In the near future if not now, people will find your business online. So if you are not online, nobody will know your existence. That does not mean putting up a website is the end of the story, that’s just beginning. It must be strategically positioned for online success using things like search engine optimization (SEO), google adwords, blogs, etc… In the world of online, you want to be on page 1 if possible. So work on that.

Next, people will talk to each other before they talk to you. The world of social media. Before they contact you, they would probably go through facebook or linkedin and ask their peers if they have used it and what is feedback. And if the social media world say you suck, your dead. Because people trust their friends and people they know rather than people who are selling their stuff! Which can be a good thing, if we do our job well, provide exceptional quality and service, people will love us. Word of mouth travels. In social media world it travels in the speed of a click. So upgrade ourselves and give top notch products and services.

In summary: Internet has changed the way we do business. People will find you through search engines. And people will talk among themselves before engaging you.

So let’s restrategize and work towards The NEW World Of Generating More Business!

How To Ruin & Destroy Your Life…

I was watching The Perfect Getaway with my wife 2 days ago. About 15 minutes into the show some weird lines of color started appearing on the screen. Obviously something is wrong because… Few minutes later, the lines of color is still there! Seconds follow, the screen went black. And lights were up. People started to feel disgruntled. Some started cursing. Some making complains. Some turning their heads to look up to the projector hopefully they can see what’s going on (clearly none of which will help).

I was sitting there and told my wife that they are fixing it, so just wait a while. 15 minutes later, they are still fixing it. And i am hearing more and more whinings for every minute that passes. I told my wife, well, if these guys feel so irritated, they can either go whine to the cinema’s management, get out of the room or go get their money back, but instead… they stood there, did nothing, and whine. I think that’s what the majority of people do, they bitch and whine and do nothing, or should i say, they don’t do what’s necessary to produce a good outcome.

So i figure out, why not list out some things people do to ruin & destroy their lives? Here are some i can think of:

  • They bitch.
  • They complain.
  • They blame.
  • They make excuses.
  • They don’t take responsibility.
  • They mix with the wrong people.
  • They are negative.
  • They are pessimistic.
  • They are lazy.
  • They don’t take action.
  • They don’t grow.
  • They don’t improve their skills.
  • They are not grateful.
  • They are overly jealous.
  • They are extremely sensitive.
  • They take things too personally.
  • They expect everything to be perfect.
  • They treat other people terribly.
  • They don’t respect others.
  • They seriously belittle others so they feel good.
  • They bully others.
  • They see bad things in everything they see.
  • They procrastinate too much.
  • They don’t say thank you enough.
  • They drink too much sugar based drinks.
  • They eat too much unhealthy foods.
  • They spend more than they earn.
  • They distant themselves from the world.
  • They never admit something is wrong with their lives (or something needs improvement/change)
  • They spend more time on tv than books.
  • They spend more time gossipping than brainstorming ideas.
  • They hate everything and everyone.
  • They always want to act as if they know more than everyone else.
  • They steal, lie or cheat.
  • They always use words like should have, could have, might have, if only.
  • They play the victim role where things happen to them.
  • They develop the wrong habits.
  • They strengthen disempowering beliefs.
  • They program their minds with I’m not good enough and other crap.
  • They don’t listen to others.
  • They don’t think of the consequences of their action or words.
  • They can’t manage their emotions.
  • They don’t fulfil their promises or commitments.

A long list i know. If one lives the 10 Sales Ninja Codes – abundance, courage, commitment, contribution, duty, focus, honor, honesty, trust, improment – all the above won’t exist. Don’t ruin and destroy your life, do great things with it.

Lessons From Gun Shooting In Bangkok!

Here’s the first gun i tried 9mm semi auto. Very powerful.

Besides the 9mm i tried as above, i also shot with the 45 caliber.
Anyway, here’s another one using a 38 special revolver.

Here’s the end result. Instructor said it’s pretty good for a first timer.

Hitting Targets

What did i learn from gun shooting?
Here are 10 lessons from the 10 Sales Ninja Codes:

Abundance: think it’s possible or easy. Even my wife shot some rounds!
Courage: everyone have some kind of fear/excitement when ever they try out new things, just step up and face fear!
Commitment: must have the strong desire and positive inner dialogue to hit the target! That’s what i said to myself when i step up to shoot, “hit the target”!
Contribution: shared some ideas with my brother and wife who also tried it! Telling them it’s fun.
Duty: don’t point away from the target! When ever you handle a gun, never point it to people, always to the target.
Focus: always aim at the target, the goal! Visualize hitting them! Besides me are a bunch of military guys practicing their assault riple shootings, which is very loud. Ignore them but be aware of them and just focus on my performance.
Honor: listened to my coach, respected his teachings and trainings!
Honesty: said to do it and did it!
Trust: trusted the trainings and also the guns to be working fine!
Improvement: always getting a better shot every time!

You should try shooting when ever you get the chance, it’s good experience.
I’ve also tried sky diving, fire walking, bungee jumping, i wonder what else can stretch my comfort zone?
